Pets can't rinse and spit, so everything on the brush gets swallowed. Our sterile 0.9% saline is just salt and purified water — no sweeteners, foaming agents, colors, fluoride or flavorings. It moistens the wipe, swab or brush so it glides and helps rinse away loose debris, while the brushing itself does the cleaning.

Our saline is isotonic — the same salt concentration as body fluids — and each 5 mL ampoule contains about 45 mg of salt. You'll only use a few drops per session. If your pet is on a sodium-restricted diet, check with your veterinarian first.

Once opened, saline is no longer sterile, and a container that's opened again and again — with a wet tool dipping back in — can pick up bacteria. That's why each ampoule holds a single 5 mL session. Open one, use what you need, and discard the rest within 24 hours.

Please don't. Homemade salt water varies in strength, isn't sterile, and too much salt can be harmful if swallowed. Our saline is measured, isotonic and sealed.

It's mildly salty and has no added flavor. Many pets barely react to it; the 28-Day Adaptation Plan includes a 'first taste' day so your pet can get used to it gently.

No. Human toothpaste is made to be spat out, and pets swallow it. Many contain xylitol, which the FDA warns is dangerous for dogs even in small amounts, plus fluoride and foaming agents. If your pet eats toothpaste that contains xylitol, call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center right away.

No. The cleaning comes from the gentle mechanical action of a wipe, swab or brush along the gumline. Flavored pet toothpaste mainly adds motivation. Our kits moisten the tool with sterile saline instead, so there's nothing sweet, foamy or sticky to swallow.

Most people start with the Standard Oral Care Kit ($34.99): it includes every non-brush tool, a brushing aid and the free 28-Day Adaptation Plan. Yes, but give each pet their own wipe or swab, and ideally their own brush. A single ampoule can moisten tools for two pets in the same session if you pour a few drops onto each tool rather than dipping.

No. Brushing removes soft plaque and food debris before they harden. Tartar that has already hardened needs a professional cleaning by your veterinarian. Brushing helps keep teeth clean between those visits.

Daily brushing is the goal; even a few sessions a week help more than none. Keep sessions short, about a minute, at the same time each day. The 28-Day Adaptation Plan builds up to that routine gradually.

Stop for pain, swelling, loose or broken teeth, persistent bleeding, difficulty eating, or a sudden behavior change around the mouth. At-home brushing should not delay professional care.

No. Brushing is a routine hygiene activity. It does not replace veterinary diagnosis, treatment, examinations, or professional cleaning.

Pause brushing for pain, swelling or persistent bleeding and contact your veterinarian. Do not force a brush against painful gums. Sudden resistance can also be a reason to check the mouth.
